Description
No. 14 Long Street is a cottage dating from the 17th century, which was refronted and slightly extended to the right in the late 18th to 19th century. The front is made of whitewashed brick, while the rear features a timber frame with diagonal braces and whitewashed brick infill. It has a thatched roof that is half-hipped to the right, topped with a central brick chimney. The cottage is one storey high with an attic and consists of two bays. It has three-light barred wooden casements, with the larger ground floor windows being 20th-century additions that include transoms and board shutters. The older casements above are set beneath thatch eyebrows and are slightly corbelled out over the ground floor walls. There is a 20th-century board and stud door to the left. To the right, there is a narrow extension made of whitewashed brick with a low single light. The rear features a central entry to a lobby that aligns with the chimney. Inside, the cross walls are timber framed, and the left bay retains an original stop-chamfered spine beam and joists, while the floor in the right bay is concealed. There is a winder stair located in the lobby.
