Description

No. 30 Long Street is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century and refurbishment around 1980. The original structure consists of two 17th-century bays that are timber framed with whitewashed brick infill, set on a granite rubble plinth. To the left, there is an additional bay that has been raised and extended, also in whitewashed brick. The house features a slate roof and brick chimneys located on either side of the original block and at the front left corner.

The building is two storeys tall and has three bays in total. The windows are 20th-century wooden casements, with a four-light window at the centre of the ground floor, a three-light window to the right, and a two-light window on the first floor. The upper window in the right bay cuts through the original wall-plate, and all upper windows are fitted with 20th-century board shutters. Between the left bays, there is a small shaped fireplace window with 20th-century glazing. The ground floor of the left bay has a single light and a 20th-century board door, which is sheltered by a 20th-century lean-to slate hood supported by wooden posts.

In 1975, the interior was noted to have some timber framing in the partition and rear walls. The fireplace in the centre bay was reported to include remnants of a former spice cupboard, a brick arch, a chamfered bressumer, and a timber-framed smoke hood with brick infill. Additionally, there is a stop-chamfered spine beam and a later fireplace in the right bay.
