Description

Castle Green House and Castle Pool House are a pair of houses, now offices, dating to the late 18th and early 19th centuries. They are constructed of brick with a hipped Welsh slate roof and two brick stacks to the front and rear. The main facade is three storeys and a basement, with a six-window range. The upper floors feature 6/6 sash windows set within gauged brick flat arches, each with wood consoles supporting the eaves. Stone sill bands run across the facade. The entrances on the right side feature six-panel doors with leaded overlights, sheltered by a moulded wood entablature on pilasters. To the left are pairs of 6/6 sash windows. The left-returned side has a central 6/6 sash window on the first and second floors, with a returned sill band. A part-glazed fielded panel door with a leaded overlight is set in panelled reveals, beneath a moulded wood flat hood on pilasters, flanked by blind openings under gauged brick flat arches. Stone and stucco quoins are visible. The rear elevation has tripartite 2/2: 6/6: 2/2 sash windows to the first and second floors, and four 6/6 sashes to the left, all with moulded architraves and continuous sill bands.

The interior of No.25 has a C19 open-well staircase with cast-iron balusters to the first floor and stick balusters to the third floor. Other features include six-panel doors, fireplaces, and coved ceilings with roses in the hall, ground floor, and basement. Examples of six- and four-panel doors and a plank door are also present in the basement. No.26 features a dogleg staircase with stick balusters. It contains panelled and four- and six-panel doors, wood fireplaces, ceiling cornices and roses, skirting, architraves, and shutters, as well as a marble fireplace on the ground floor. The cellar includes two-panel doors, a plank door, a partly stone-lined wall, and a grille.
