Description
No. 8 Castle Street is a house with a later 18th-century front that conceals an earlier core. It is constructed of brick and has a Welsh slate roof, with a brick axial stack featuring a 20th-century superstructure at the rear. The building has two storeys and a four-window range, with 6/6 sash windows beneath simple 20th-century wooden hoods and moulded wooden eaves. The entrance is located to the centre right and features a 20th-century, six-panel door and doorcase with a moulded flat hood. To the right of the entrance is one 6/6 sash window, and to the left are two more 6/6 sashes, all in moulded cases under segmental arches, with a storey band above.
On the left side, there is a blocked opening under a segmental arch, a returned storey band, and a restored leaded casement window in an oak frame under a segmental arch. Graffiti on the brickwork dates back to 1783. At the rear, there are two 17th-century timber-framed wings.
Inside, the first floor features exposed timber framing, including chamfered ceiling beams, and has two and four-panel doors. The ground floor includes a two-panel door, an 18th-century wall cupboard, a stone fireplace, and a chamfered ceiling beam.
