Description

Market Pitch Cottage is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with extensions from the 17th century and some early 18th-century alterations. It was restored in the late 20th century. The building features a timber frame with rendered infill set on a coursed rubble plinth, topped by a tile roof. It has an L-shaped plan, with the 17th-century range located to the west and the 16th-century range to the south, which includes a lateral stack in the east wall.

The north front shows the 17th-century range on the right, which is one storey high with an attic that is lit by a gabled dormer above a 2-light 20th-century casement window with plank weatherings. The gabled range to the left was originally jettied and has a 2-light casement window on each floor. The entrance is located to the right of the center and features a ledged and boarded door.

The framing of the building includes light scantling under-building with three square panels high, while the upper floor has two square panels with curved angle braces. The gable truss is supported by three struts to the collar, and the bargeboards are intricately carved and cusped. Inside, there is an ogee-headed window in the west wall of the 16th-century range, which is currently blocked by the 17th-century range.
