Description

Ridge Farmhouse is a house dating back to the 16th century, with extensions from the 17th century (altered in the 19th century) and a later 20th-century addition. It is timber framed and largely tile hung, with brick pilasters; the timber frame is exposed at the rear, with plaster infill on a brick base. The roof is tiled. The front range, representing the 17th-century wing, sits on a sandstone plinth and has four 19th-century brick pilasters and a gabled roof featuring the remains of molded bargeboards and a stack at the right end, with a further stack cluster at the rear. The windows are regularly spaced, with two three-light wooden casements on each floor. The ground-floor windows are fitted with transoms. A central rib and stud door has large ornate hinges and a rectangular fanlight. A metal casement window is in a lean-to addition to the right. A two-storey, hipped, weather-boarded and tile-hung range extends from the rear right. The left return features outshots and a half-glazed door within a 19th-century gabled porch. The rear wing dates to the 16th century and features a hipped roof, a stack cluster and exposed small-panel framing with arched braces in three tiers, all set on a tall red brick plinth. The interior is fully timber framed, with inglenook fireplaces.
