Description
This is an early house, possibly dating back to the 16th century or earlier, which has been altered and extended during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The house and attached stable block are timber-framed and largely clad in painted brick at ground level, with painted tile hanging above. Some sections have exposed red brick and red tile hanging on the return elevations. The roofs are tiled. The building is likely to have originated as a hall house.
The main part of the house is two storeys high, rising to a garret on the left, with a half-hipped roof featuring gablets. This section steps down to a two-storey extension. Chimneys are located towards the centre right and left sides. The upper floor has glazing bar sash windows and two wooden casements. The ground floor has five 20th-century casements, with a rebuilt entrance following the removal of a shop front on the right side. A catslide roof extends to the rear, and access is provided by a glazed 20th-century porch on the left return.
Attached to the right is a stable block, two storeys high, with a canted front and a half-hipped roof. The first floor has a boarded loft door and two shuttered openings. The ground floor has a boarded door and a wooden casement to the right of it.
