Description
The gates, piers, and wall attached to Murlingden, located immediately north of the Strict Baptist Chapel, date from around 1841. They are constructed from rock-faced sandstone and cast iron. The piers stand approximately 8 feet tall and are topped with projecting cornices, which support cast iron and glass lamps. The double leaf carriage gates are about 3 to 4 feet high, tapering down to the center and featuring a dog rail. Extending west from the southern pier is a section of wall that is about 7 feet high, which gently rises from the pier and stretches approximately 25 meters, curving slightly at the western end. This wall is part of the enclosure surrounding the adjacent Strict Baptist Chapel and is included for its group value.
