Description

A house, formerly used as a hotel, dating from the 14th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The house is timber-framed with rendered infill, set on a rendered plinth, and has a tile roof. It comprises four bays aligned east to west. The western bay is jettied to the front and south, and the bay to the east of the centre is also jettied. The south front is two storeys high; the two un-jettied bays have coving to the eaves, with only half of this coving surviving in the left-hand bay. There are two fixed casements to the left, and two three-light casements in the right-hand jettied bay. The ground floor has four three-light casements. The entrance, to the right of centre, has a four-centred head and a 20th-century two-leaf door. The timber framing includes a moulded plate on the ground floor, a dragon beam with a diagonally set curved bracket rising from a moulded capital in the left-hand corner, and wall-frames consisting of two square panels high on each floor. Cusped angle braces are in the left-hand end, and the west gable-end truss is 19th century, while the eastern end retains a cusped roof. The building likely extended further to the east.
