Description
Church Croft is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with some parts rebuilt in the late 17th century and mid-19th century alterations, as well as an extension from the early 20th century. The building features a timber-frame construction with rendered infill sitting on a coursed rubble plinth and has a tile roof. It is designed in an L-shape, with a 16th-century cross-wing extending to the north and a 17th-century range to the east. A short 20th-century wing projects to the west from the cross-wing.
The north front of the house has two storeys and features one plus one windows, both of which are 3-light casements. The ground floor has two plus one windows, also 3-light casements. The entrance is located in the angle of the building and has a lean-to porch added in the 20th century. The cross-wing is jettied and has a chamfered bressummer. The ground floor features two square panels high with close-studding above, and the gable truss includes a king-post with herring-bone struts. The framing of the east range consists of four square panels high.
Inside, the house has exposed chamfered and stopped ceiling beams, along with a large inglenook fireplace in the west room of the 17th-century range.
