Description

Orleton House is a timber-frame house dating from the early 17th century, with a restoration undertaken in the mid-20th century. It is located on the north side of Kings Road in Orleton. The house is of a T-plan, comprising a rear range to the northwest, and a front range aligned northeast/southwest. A large axial stack is present, alongside an external rubble stack to the south gable.

The south front features a jettied central bay, with a gable above. The first floor of this bay has a three-light casement window beneath a plank weathering. Gabled dormers illuminate the attics of the flanking bays. The ground floor has three three-light casement windows, and a ledged and boarded door is positioned to the right of centre. The timber framing is four square panels high, with a moulded bressummer to the jetty supported by curved brackets. Straight angle braces are present, and the gable above has two struts to the collar with V-struts in the apex.

The rear wing is of two storeys with an attic; a framed dormer window sits in the north wall. This wing retains a four-light mullion and transom window with ovolo mouldings, set within herringbone framing arranged to form lozenges. The gable of this window has a king-post and herringbone struts. A similar window is found at the north end of the first storey on the same wall, also with a heavily moulded sill. The gable-end stack incorporates a cast iron fireback inscribed "F.B/1630".

The interior south room of the rear wing features heavily moulded ceiling beams.
