Description
The Orleton War Memorial is a stone structure featuring a Celtic style Latin wheel cross. The cross stands on a two-stepped base that incorporates memorial inscription panels, with the lettering incised and painted. On the east face of the upper panel, the inscription reads:
1914-1918 / IN MEMORY OF / ORLETON MEN
Below this inscription are the names of the fifteen men who died in the First World War. The south face of the upper panel bears the inscription:
1939 – 1945 / IN MEMORY OF
This lists the name of one man who died in the Second World War.
The memorial is surrounded by a rubble stone wall topped with wrought-iron railings featuring spear heads at the front and modern railings at the rear. Access to the memorial is through a wrought-iron gate situated between two stone gate piers, which have ashlar upper sections and pyramidal caps, and is approached by steps.
