Description

This is a house, dating back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and some early 20th century additions. It is timber-framed, with painted brick and rendered infill between the timbers, resting on a base of coursed rubble, and has a tile roof. The house has a T-shaped plan, featuring a cross-wing aligned north-west/south-east and a smaller range to the north-east. A rubble chimney with a brick shaft is located on the south-east wall of the cross-wing, and on the north-west wall of the other range.

The north front has two storeys, with a jettied cross-wing on the left side. The first floor has three windows on the left and one window on the right, all with two lights and casements. The ground floor has three windows on the left and two windows on the right; two are two-light casements, one is a three-light casement, and a further window is a three-light, horizontally sliding sash. The entrance to Deacons Cottage is located in the east gable end, while the entrance to Ye Old House is in the west return front. The timber framing consists of three square panels high on the subsidiary range. The cross-wing has two square panels high on each floor, supported by curved brackets. The roof structure within the cross-wing includes curved arch-braces to the tie-beam, three struts to the collar, a king-post above, and clasped purlins.
