Description
The John Wheeler monument is a chest tomb located about 7 yards south of the central lancet of the south aisle of the Church of St George. It commemorates John Wheeler, who died in 1814. The tomb is made of sandstone ashlar and features a moulded base and capping, with the capping gently hipped. The flat end panels curve outwards beyond the planes of the side inscription panels. This monument is part of a group of four chest tombs, which also includes those for Barrett, Burrup, and Hooper.
