Description

The Richard Wheeler monument is a chest tomb located about 13 yards south-west of the south porch of the Church of St George. It commemorates Richard Wheeler, a surgeon who died in 1785. The monument is made of sandstone ashlar and features a moulded capping. It has raised inscription panels with a moulded border, which are flanked towards the corners by decorative paterae and foliage. This tomb is one of a group of three monuments situated to the south-west of the south porch, with the other two dedicated to the Richards Mailes.
