Description
The Wheeler monument, located about three yards south of the weathered projection of the south wall of the Church of St Barnabas, is a chest tomb dedicated to James Wheeler, who died in 1827. It is made of sandstone ashlar and features a deep moulded plinth. The tomb has a richly moulded flat capping with an inset oval center that rises to an egg-shaped finial. Each corner is adorned with enriched balusters, each featuring a patera. The side panels are recessed and have obliquely angled corners.
