Description

Walnut Tree Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been converted into a house, likely dating from the late 17th century to the 18th century, with later alterations. The building features a sandstone rubble plinth and a timber frame with brick nogging, partially finished in weatherboards and render. It has a thatched roof and two brick chimneys. The structure has a rectangular plan, probably consisting of four or five structural bays, and is aligned north-east to south-west. It is one storey high with an attic.

On the north elevation, there are two windows with 2-light mid-20th century steel casements and weatherboarded surrounds beneath eyebrow features. The ground floor has two similar casements and a 3-light contemporary casement positioned higher between them. To the right side, there is a mid-20th century six-pane window. The south elevation has three entrances, all fitted with late 20th century doors. The west gable features a rendered upper section, and the frame consists of two square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate. The interior was inaccessible during the last survey in April 1986.
