Description

11 and 12 Church Road are a pair of cottages that likely date from the late 16th century to the 17th century, with some later alterations. They feature a sandstone rubble plinth and a timber frame with plaster infill, topped by a thatched roof and brick end stacks. The cottages have a rectangular four-bay plan that runs roughly north to south and are two storeys high.

On the west elevation, there are two late 19th century casement windows, each with two lights, located in the slightly jettied upper storey. The ground floor includes a 2-light mid-20th century steel casement window on the left and a 3-paned contemporary window on the right. To the left of centre, there is a canted bay window from the late 19th or early 20th century, flanked by early 20th century doors with glazed panels. The frame features a lightly moulded bressummer supported by three curved brackets, and there are two angle struts from the cill beam, one leading to the right corner post and the other to a probable former left corner post. The ground floor has two rows of roughly square panels between the cill and bressummer, while the first-floor panelling is similar but more irregular. The south gable has its first floor underbuilt in rubble. The interior has not been inspected.
