Description

Oxford House is a public house that has been converted into a house. It likely dates from the 17th century, with later alterations. The building features sandstone rubble and a timber frame with plaster infill, topped with hipped stone and Welsh slate roofs. There are two sandstone rubble end stacks with brick shafts and a large off-ridge brick stack to the right. The structure is U-shaped, with a four-bay main range running north to south and subsidiary arms extending to the east.

It stands two storeys tall, with the upper level partly in the attic. The west elevation has three windows and low-set attic dormers, which are probably from the late 19th century, featuring gables and 2-light mid-19th century glazing bar casements. The ground floor has three similar casements, each with three lights, and a gabled 19th-century porch to the left of centre, which contains a ledged mid-19th century door and a transom light. The right-hand part of the building is underpinned in sandstone rubble, and the frame consists of four square rectangular panels high from the cill to the wall-plate. The right-hand rear wing includes a mid-19th century washhouse extension. The interior has not been inspected. Oxford House is noted to have been a public house until it was closed by the Harley Estate in the late 19th century.
