Description
46 and 47 Harnage Bank are a pair of cottages dating from the mid- to late 17th century, with 20th-century additions. They are timber framed with painted brick nogging set on a painted sandstone rubble plinth and have a plain tile roof. The cottages consist of two framed bays and are one storey with an attic over a basement on the north-west side.
The front features three gabled eaves dormers with two-light wooden casements. There is a large, diagonally-placed integral lateral brick stack to the front, off-centre to the left, and a 19th-century integral brick end stack with two diagonal shafts. The framing displays square panels, with three panels extending from the sole-plate to the wall-plate. The front has three windows, with 19th- and 20th-century one- and two-light wooden casements, and a half-glazed door located between the first and second windows from the right.
To the right, there is a 20th-century flat-roofed one-storey addition made of painted brick. Inside, the left-hand gable end reveals an exposed collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts, along with a boarded door leading to the basement. The left-hand cottage has additional 20th-century features at the rear, including the current entrance.
