Description
The Jones Memorial is an early 19th-century pedestal tomb located about 14 metres north-west of the west tower of the Church of St Faith in Dorstone. It is constructed from ashlar and has a square plan cuboid shape on a plinth. The tomb features a chamfered top that leads to a pyramidal cap, which is topped with a finial. There are oval inscription panels framed by fluted pilasters, with the upper spandrels also fluted and the lower spandrels decorated with paterae. The inscription on the south side reads: "Underneath/ are/ deposited the / mortal Remains/ of the Revd/ John Jones/ of this Parish./ He deceased August/ the 19th A.D./ 1826/ Aged [ ... ]/ [ ... ]". The west side commemorates Lucy Jones, the daughter of John, who died in 1824. The memorial is signed: "[ ... ] Peterchurch".
