Description

The Court House is a house that dates from around the 18th or 19th century, which is a remodelling of a late 17th-century structure. It was extended in the 20th century. The front is made of dressed stone, while the rear is constructed from stone rubble. The roof is slate with gable ends and features stone modillion eaves. There are stone gable end stacks with modillion cornices.

The house has a double depth plan, consisting of two main front rooms, a central entrance stair hall, and smaller service rooms at the rear. There is a large 20th-century extension on the right side and single-storey outshuts at the rear and left end.

The exterior is two storeys high. The original house has a symmetrical three-window front, featuring late 18th to early 19th-century two-light mullion transom windows with casements and small panes. These windows are set in openings with rusticated stone flat arches that have keystones. The central entrance has a fielded panel door and a large stone porch from the late 19th or 20th century, which is supported by paired columns. The right side has a two-storey, two-bay 20th-century extension, with the left bay projecting and gabled. At the rear, there are smaller two-light casements with leaded panes and a rendered single-storey outshut.

Inside, the right room was originally the hall and features a large fireplace with a chamfered timber bresumer. The parlour on the left has a 19th-century marble chimneypiece. There is an open-well staircase with newels and stick balusters. The joinery from the 18th and 19th centuries includes panelled doors. The original back doorway has a chamfered frame and a cambered head.
