Description
Lower House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and has an L-plan layout, with wings extending to the south (from the 17th century) and east (from the 18th century). There are stacks on the south gable and on the north wall at the junction of the wings.
The south elevation features one storey and an attic, with a gabled wing projecting to the left that has a brick shaft at its apex. This section has no windows, but there is a ledged door under a timber lintel to the right. The east/west wing has a band at the ground floor and is also one storey with an attic, which is lit by two raked top dormers. To the extreme right, there is a granary entrance, and to the left, a wide entry leads to a former cider house. The left end of this wing has two 6-pane boxed sashes flanking a central entry, which features a gabled canopy supported by plain wooden posts and a 4-panelled door.
Inside, there are chamfered and stopped beams, and a stud-and-plank partition separates the two wings. Additionally, there is a blocked window with a square label in the north wall of the north/south wing.
