Description
No. 35 Edgar Street is a house that has been converted into a surgery and flats. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of brick with a hipped slate roof and brick ridge and end stack.
The building has three storeys and a cellar, featuring a four-window range with 6/6 sash windows set under segmental arches. Above these are similar windows, and there is a brick modillion eaves. The entrance is located to the centre left and consists of a six-panel door with a margin glazed overlight, set in a panelled case. This is sheltered by a flat-roofed portico with glazed sides and three-quarter glazed double doors flanked by fluted columns. To the right, there is a two-storey wing with a hipped slate roof and an outshut, while a 20th-century single-storey wing is present to the left.
Inside, the property features a dogleg staircase with chamfered stick balusters leading to the first floor, where there are two stick balustered flights to the second floor. The second floor includes a fire surround, wall cupboards, architraves, six-panel doors with architraves, skirtings, and picture rails. The first floor has a moulded ceiling cornice, six-panel doors with architraves, wall cupboards, a fire-grate, skirtings, and a stick baluster landing guard. On the ground floor, there are six-panel doors, splayed reveals with shutters, architraves, and panelled risers to the windows, along with a fire surround, cornices and rose, picture rails, and a six-panel door with a margin-glazed overlight leading to the porch. The cellar contains two plank doors.
