Description

No. 28 Southbank Road is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a 20th-century composite tile roof with two brick end stacks. The building stands three storeys high with a cellar and has a three-window range, showcasing 6/6 sash windows beneath brick segmental arches. There is a painted storey band and 3/3 sashes above. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed panelled door set within a moulded doorcase, topped by a simple porch with a hipped fish-scale slate roof supported by chamfered posts, and flanked by 6/6 sashes.

To the left, there is a recessed wing that includes a tier of 20th-century, three-light casements above a 20th-century light and glazed door. The rear of the house features two 3/6 sashes and one 8/8 sash, with 4/4 sashes above. The brick modillion eaves are prominent, and there are two notable slate-roofed bay windows with 2/2 sashes.

Inside, the house contains an early 19th-century dogleg staircase with turned newels, stick balusters, and a swan neck rail. On the second floor, there are 6-panel doors with architraves and a 4-panel door. The first floor features 6-panel doors with architraves, window architraves, a cornice, and another 4-panel door. The ground floor includes 6-panel doors with architraves, wood-lined arches, a ceiling cornice in the hall, panelled risers, window architraves, alcoves, picture rails, a 19th-century marble fireplace, and architraves to the bays. The cellar is lined with masonry, stone, and brick.
