Description

Barr's Court Railway Station is a railway station built around 1855 by Johnson of Birkenhead. It is constructed of brick and features a steep slate roof with nine octagonal brick chimney stacks, some of which are grouped together. The exterior includes a central gable flanked by protruding wings, all adorned with stepped gables, coping, and finials. The windows have ashlar surrounds and moulded bands, with cusped lancet windows that have casements grouped at the gables. There are various entrances fitted with 20th-century doors.

To the right, there is a single-storey wing with steep and hipped roofs and two plain brick stacks. The left wing is also single-storey with a hipped roof behind a parapet and features a single octagonal stack. The platform facade has a rendered parapet with coping and includes some coloured leaded lights in the buffet and station office, along with original double doors that have grooved decoration. The staircase has framed panelling with chamfer and grooved decoration.

The east platform has a single-storey building that includes a waiting room/office and a toilet block, both in a similar style with a corrugated-iron roof. This section features a raised glazed louvred section with a transom and ornamental gable parapets, as well as carved stone springers for the platform shelters, which have cast-iron brackets extending over the footbridge to the main complex.

Inside, the station retains fireplaces, mouldings on the ceilings, and window and door architraves, along with Great Western Railway furniture. The buffet area includes a draught screen with coloured leaded lights.
