Description
Aylestone House is a late 18th-century house, now subdivided into houses. It is located on Aylestone Hill in Hereford. The house is constructed of brick, with the ground floor colour-washed. It has hipped slate roofs and brick stacks to the rear. The building follows a double-depth plan, arranged symmetrically over three storeys with a five-window front. The windows are predominantly 6/6 sashes with segmental arches, and smaller 3/3 sashes above, with painted reveals and a brick modillion eaves detail. The central front door is a 6-panel design with a fanlight, set within a plain case surmounted by a moulded pagoda-roofed hood supported by Doric columns. It is flanked by coloured margin-glazed sashes and a storeyband. A recessed wing was added to the right, featuring a hipped roof and matching sashes in the recess, with a brick modillioned head. This wing contains a 4-panel door with a fanlight within a moulded round-headed case, and a 20th-century porch. On the returned right side of the wing is a similar recess containing a 6/6 sash under a segmental arch. The rear of the building is colour-washed and incorporates 19th and 20th-century extensions.
