Description

This is a late 19th-century entrance archway, leading to a graveyard. Constructed of ashlar sandstone, it features steps leading to a central arch with ornamental iron gates. Above the arch is a decorative "Dutch gable" with a pediment. The arch is flanked by matching railings set within ashlar walls. The pillars are ornamented with ball finials, weathered coats of arms, and inscriptions. The structure commemorates the Reverend John Venn MA, Vicar of St Peter's and St Owen's, who served from 1833 to 1870 and died in 1890, and is described as “one of Hereford’s greatest benefactors.”
