Description

No. 51 Commercial Street is a shop and dwelling built in the late 18th century. It features painted brickwork and a 20th-century composite tile roof. The building has two storeys and a cellar, with a two-window range. The mid-19th-century windows are 2/2 sashes set under segmental arches and have wooden awnings. A brick modillion cornice runs along the parapet. The late 19th-century shop front includes an entrance to the right, featuring a part-glazed two-panel door with a leaded overlight. The shop window has moulded glazing bars and leaded clerestory lights, along with a moulded fascia-board and hood.

Inside, there is a 19th-century stick baluster staircase leading to the first floor. The first floor has an exposed part ceiling frame and wall cupboards, along with unhung panelled doors. The ground floor features 19th-century panelling, and the cellar is brick-lined. There is a wing at the rear with another 19th-century stick baluster staircase leading to the second floor, which also contains wall cupboards. Additionally, there is a 19th-century warehouse at the rear.
