Description

Nos. 52, 52A, 52B, and 52C on Commercial Street in Hereford are a late 18th-century shop and dwelling that have been converted into shops, dwellings, and a restaurant. The building is constructed of brick and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with brick end stacks. It stands three storeys tall and has a five-window range, with 6/6 sash windows (three of which are likely from the 20th century) under gauged brick flat arches, and 3/3 sash windows above. The eaves are moulded and have modillioned detailing. There are three 20th-century shop fronts, and to the right, there is a 20th-century door with a margin-glazed overlight, set beneath a mutilated 19th-century moulded fascia board, with a modillioned hood still intact to the left.

Inside, there is an 18th-century open-well staircase with a moulded rail, turned balusters, and fretted brackets. On the second floor, there are panelled wall cupboards with L-hinges and a remaining fireplace. The first floor features a leaded light window at the rear (part of No. 51), early 19th-century panelled reveals at the front, and a six-panel door. The cellar is partly stone-lined.
