Description
No. 61 on Commercial Street is a building that originally served as shops, dwellings, and an inn, and is now used as offices and flats. The front of the building dates from the 19th century, while the core of No. 61 has origins in the 17th century and even medieval features. The exterior is finished in stucco and topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof, which has two rendered ridge stacks. The building stands three storeys high and features an eight-window range. This includes five late 19th-century windows, with two 2/2 casements on the left, two modern lights, and a tripartite casement on the right, all set within moulded stucco architraves. There is an interrupted storey band and similar fenestration, along with corbelled eaves. The shop front of No. 61 is modern, while the rest of the building has various modern lights and entrances, all in rusticated stucco beneath a moulded storey band. To the right, there is a canted return with returned storey bands and two 2/2 sash windows on the first and second floors. Inside, there is a medieval cellar, but otherwise, no original features remain.
