Description
16 and 17 High Town are shops and dwellings that date from the 15th to 17th centuries, with an 18th-century front and later alterations. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a slate roof with a brick buttress stack on the right side. It stands four storeys tall and has a four-window range. The first and second floors have 19th-century plain sash windows set under gauged brick flat arches, while the third and sixth windows above have 3/6 sashes. The building has a coped parapet and a 20th-century shop front, with a passage to the rear on the left side. Inside, there is 15th-century timber-framing at the first-floor level at the front of the building. The original 15th-century ceiling frame and plaster are mostly intact but have been covered by 17th-century plasterwork.
