Description
This is a four-storey house, likely dating from the 16th century, with significant alterations from the 17th century and a refronting in the early 19th century. More recent changes occurred in the mid-to-late 20th century. The building is timber-framed, with a plastered facade, likely over brick, and a parapet concealing a slate roof. The front has two windows. The first floor has blind windows, while the second floor has sash windows with glazing bars and the third floor has smaller casements, all set into raised, moulded surrounds. A thin band sits above the glazed shop front, which was added in the late 20th century. The interior retains a substantial timber frame, although sections were altered during a supermarket extension in the 1960s, including the removal of the first-floor flooring and a rear staircase. The first-floor ceiling is original from the 17th century, featuring enriched panels framed by downstanding girding beams and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The upper floors and some features were abandoned during the 20th-century alterations.
