Description

Nos. 7, 9, and 11 Bargates are houses that now serve as a shop and dwellings. They date from the 17th century and have been altered in the 19th century. The buildings feature a timber-frame and plaster construction, with roughcast and stucco, which is rusticated at the ground floor. The roof is covered with plain tiles, including some old tiles at the rear, and there is a small stack at the back, likely from the 20th century.

The structure has a four-bay plan and stands two storeys high, with a five-window range that includes 20th-century casements. There are various 20th-century doors, with two on the right set in moulded architraves, flanking a 19th-century bow window that has moulded glazing bars, a fascia, and pilasters. To the left, there is a 19th-century fixed light with moulded glazing bars, a plain architrave, and a flat hood, along with a 20th-century fixed light. The two left-hand bays project out, supported by curved chamfered brackets, while the right-hand bays are likely underbuilt from the early 19th century.

On the left side, the gable is plastered, and there is a pentice board over the timber framing. Below this, there is a shallow 19th-century timber-framed section under a plain tiled pentice roof on the ground floor. Inside, the ceiling frame features ogee-stop chamfered beams.
