Description

Nos. 13, 14, and 15 High Street is a house or possibly a row of houses that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the early 17th century but was completely remodeled in the early or mid 19th century, with later additions at the rear. The building features solid rendered walls and a slate roof, topped by a small cream-brick chimney from the late 20th century. It is three storeys high and has a four-window range. The ground and second storeys are divided into three irregular bays by panelled pilasters with fluted Doric capitals, which support an entablature that projects over the end pilasters and the middle bay. There is a raised panel on the frieze of the middle bay. The third storey has rusticated quoins and window arches, finished with a moulded cornice. The ground storey has late 20th-century display windows, while the second and third storeys feature 6-paned sash windows, except for the upper sashes in the third storey, which have only 3 panes. The right-hand second-storey sashes are later replacements with horns. The interior was inspected only on the ground storey, which has been gutted and altered to create a large shop. However, there is a plaster overmantel dated 1628 in the right side wall, which was reportedly found behind panelling on the second floor at No. 15.
