Description
Nos. 4, 6, and 8 Chestergate is a house that has been converted for commercial use as shops and offices. It dates from around 1750, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick with stone quoins, and the roof is not visible due to a parapet. It has three storeys and features a six-window range, including three late 19th-century shop fronts and a central door framed by a moulded stone architrave. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes with flat-arched brick heads and painted stone sills, and there are painted stone string courses and moulded eaves. A doorway to a rear passage is located to the right. Inside, the building retains its original staircase with turned balusters, along with two panelled rooms that have bolection moulded fireplaces and round-arched inter-connecting doors at the first-floor level.
