Description

No. 10, High Street is a house with a shop, likely built in the early 18th century and remodelled in the late 18th or early 19th century. The front wall is rendered, and it is probably timber-framed, with a slate roof. A red-brick chimney rises from the ridge. The building has a double-depth plan, with one room wide and a staircase positioned in the rear left-hand corner. It is three storeys high and has a two-window front. A late 19th-century shop front features carved consoles supporting 18th-century female busts in the upper panels. The upper storeys have a rusticated pilaster strip on the left side. The second-floor windows are 6-paned sashes in recessed box frames. The third-floor windows have barred sashes with 3 over 6 panes in concealed frames. The eaves have a rebuilt boxed cornice. Barred sashes are present at the rear of the second storey. Inside, a late 18th or early 19th century wooden dog-leg staircase features column newels and thin square balusters, starting from the first floor. Two late 18th-century doors on the second floor have raised and fielded panels with 2-fillet ovolo mouldings.
