Description
35 and 37 West Street is a house that has been converted into shops and dwellings. It dates from the 18th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building features painted brickwork and a steep-pitched hipped roof made of old plain tiles. There are brick end stacks, with the right stack reduced in height, and a central brick ridge stack that has been restored in the 20th century.
The structure has three storeys and a three-window range. The windows include 6/6 sashes set under gauged brick flat arches, as well as 3/3 sashes. To the left, there is a 20th-century 3/3 horizontal casement, also under gauged brick flat arches. The eaves are adorned with brick modillion detailing.
On the ground floor, there are two early 20th-century shop fronts featuring glazed and panelled doors, along with canted plate-glass windows. These shop fronts are topped with matching moulded fascia-boards and hoods that have stop-consoles resting on grooved pilasters. The interior has not been inspected.
