Description
28 West Street is a shop and dwelling that dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with possibly earlier origins and later alterations. The building is constructed of painted brick and has an old plain tile roof, featuring a brick ridge stack on the right. It stands three storeys tall and has a two-window range. The windows include a late 19th-century 2/2 sash under a gauged brick flat arch and, at a higher level to the right, a 6/6 sash in a timber frame. There is also another late 19th-century 2/2 sash and brick modillion eaves. The early 20th-century shop front has a glazed and panelled door in panelled reveals to the left, along with a canted window that has chamfered glazing shafts. The shop front includes a fascia board and a moulded hood supported by panelled pilasters. To the right, there is a carriageway leading to the rear under a segmental arch. At the rear, there is a rendered wing with two 19th-century casements. The interior has not been inspected.
