Description
26 and 28 Millgate are two houses, now functioning as three houses, dating from the late 18th century. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature a slate roof. The building has rebated eaves on the rear wing, coped gables, and three gable stacks. The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes with segmental heads. The structure is two storeys plus garrets and has a five-window range, with the rightmost window being blank. The layout is L-shaped.
There are paired central wooden doorcases in a Classical style, complete with cornices, and fielded six-panel doors with overlights. On either side of the doors, there are round-headed scrapers, followed by two windows. Each gable features two small segment-headed garret casements. The left end of the rear wing has a single-storey lean-to addition with a 20th-century door that has an elliptical head. To the right of this addition, there are three glazing bar sashes with segmental heads.
