Description
96 and 98 Church Street are two houses, now vacant and boarded up, dating from around 1770. They feature early 19th century and mid 19th century rear additions, along with mid 20th century alterations. The buildings are constructed of brick with painted stone dressings and have pantile roofs, with two gable stacks and a single ridge stack.
The houses stand three storeys high and have a four-window range of 12-pane sash windows with splayed lintels, arranged in a pattern of 1:3. The two middle windows are unglazed. Above these, there are four 6-pane sash windows arranged similarly. On the ground floor, there is a garage door opening flanked by single windows, and to the right, a canted wooden bay window. The left return features a lean-to addition on the left with a single window, and below it are three similar windows of various sizes, all with segmental heads. The rear elevation includes two gabled rear wings and is two storeys tall.
