Description

Victoria Cottage is a house dating from the mid-to-late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and has a steep pitched pantile roof with a catslide at the rear and two gable and one ridge stack. The building is single-storey plus garrets and has a four-window front, with the right end possibly being a later addition. A gabled porch, possibly dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, is on the right, featuring a round-arched opening covering a boarded door. There is a single casement window on the left side, a small hinged ventilator, and then two two-light Yorkshire sash windows with glazing bars. The right return has a small nine-pane sash window to the left, and the left gable has a small, blocked garret window.

Inside, the house features a brick-tiled floor and board doors. Three hearths exist, one of which is partially blocked with a 20th-century fireplace inserted. A surviving bressumer beam is also present. Several original beams remain in the ground floor ceiling, including stop-chamfered joists, although some roof timbers were replaced, presumably in the 19th century, when an outshot was added to the rear and the building was reroofed.
