Description

Sutton House is a late 18th-century house, later converted into flats, situated on Lowgate in Kingston upon Hull. The building is constructed of painted brick with a hipped slate roof and several chimney stacks. It features a plinth, a band at first-floor level, and dentillated eaves. The house has three storeys and originally five windows across the front. The windows are late 20th-century glazing bar sashes with flat brick arches. The south front has a projecting central bay of three windows, topped with a pediment. A central canted bay window with a cornice is flanked by single 12-pane sashes. Above are three 9-pane sashes, and below are a central portico with Doric columns and flanking pilasters, with a tall 15-pane sash on either side of the portico; beyond these are 12-pane sashes with 9-pane sashes above and 15-pane sashes below. The left return has been refenestrated, while the right return and the rear wing have been largely rebuilt.
