Description
23 and 23A Millgate is a former house, now used as offices, dating from around 1780, with later alterations from the late 19th century and 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a pantile roof. It features a plinth, a first-floor band, moulded wooden eaves, and coped gables with kneelers. There are two gable stacks and one side wall stack. The windows are glazing bar sashes with rubbed brick heads. The structure has three storeys and a five-window range in an L-plan layout. The front elevation displays five sashes, with five smaller sashes above. There are steps leading to a central Classical style doorcase supported by Doric piers and topped with a dentilled open pediment. The entrance features a fielded six-panel door with an overlight, flanked by two windows on either side. The rear wing gable has symmetrical fenestration, including a central 20th-century nine-pane window flanked by a single margin light and glazing bar sashes positioned higher. Below this, there is a central 20th-century door with a margin light sash to the left and a 20th-century window to the right. The upper sashes and ground floor openings have segmental heads.
