Description
31 and 32 Market Place are two houses that have been converted into a shop. The buildings date from the early to mid-18th century and have undergone some alterations in the late 20th century.
The house at 31, on the left, is constructed of brick with stone dressings, and while the roof is not visible, it features two side wall stacks. It has lintel bands at the upper floors, chamfered quoins on the right side, and a panelled coped parapet. The building is three storeys high and has a four-window range of 12-pane sashes, with two of the windows on the second floor being blank. All windows have keystone lintels. The late 20th-century shopfront includes a recessed central door, with an entry door and overlight to the left.
The house at 32, on the right, is also brick but has a painted stucco front and a slate roof, featuring two gable stacks. It has moulded sill bands at the upper floors, moulded wooden eaves, and a single coped gable. This building is also three storeys high and has a three-window range of 12-pane sashes, with the first-floor windows adorned with moulded cornices and label moulds above them. The shopfront is similar to that of 31 but has a larger central door.
