Description

This is a row of four houses, now shops, located on Bridge Street, Newark on Trent, with a rear elevation facing Appleton Gate. The building dates from the early 19th century and has undergone alterations in the mid and late 20th century. The facades are colourwashed stucco, topped with gabled and hipped pantile and concrete tile roofs, and two rendered side wall stacks. A coped parapet runs along the top of the building. The Bridge Street frontage has nine windows: two steel casements are flanked to the left by two plain sashes and to the right by five plain sashes. The first floor has eight plain sashes, three of which are blank. The ground floor features three mid-20th century shopfronts on the left and a larger early 20th century shopfront on the right, which includes an angled corner window and a cornice. The Appleton Gate front has five plain sashes, with the three to the right set higher, and two plain sashes above, followed by a blank panel flanked by single 12-pane sashes. The ground floor along Appleton Gate shows the return of the Bridge Street shopfront with two windows, alongside a mid-20th century shopfront.
