Description
9 and 9A Appleton Gate is a house that has been converted into two shops. It dates from the early 18th century and has undergone early and late 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of brick and features a hipped concrete tile roof with one ridge stack. It stands two storeys tall with attics and has a three-window range of plain sash windows, with the central window being blank. Above, there are two box dormers that contain two-light casements. On the ground floor, to the left, there is a late 20th-century single pane shop window. To the right, there is an early 20th-century shopfront that includes a recessed glazed corner door with an overlight, flanked by single pane windows. All windows are topped with margin light toplights and there is a corniced fascia. The right side of the building, which faces Church Walk, has a segment-headed blank wall. This building is part of the architectural group value of 1 Church Walk.
