Description
The Grove is a country house, now functioning as a Theological College, built around 1810. It features stucco that has been colourwashed, with hipped slate roofs, an ashlar plinth, and dressings. The building is two storeys high, measuring seven bays wide and three bays deep, arranged in a C plan. The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes.
On the west front, there is an off-centre roofless Doric portico and a doorcase with an eared architrave. To the left of the portico, there are two sashes, and above them, three sashes. The south side has two setback bays to the right. To the left, there is a 20th-century French window flanked by a single sash on the left and five tall sashes on the right. Above this, there are seven smaller sashes.
The east side has a blocked window and door, with a sash to the right. Above this, there is a blocked window and two sashes. The rear wing on the east has two sashes and a casement, with a sash above. The rear features a round-headed sash to the left and a walkway with 20th-century fenestration to the right, with three sashes above.
Inside, there is a stone cantilever dogleg stair with iron stick balusters and a scrolled handrail. The principal rooms contain single marble and timber Classical fireplaces, and the ceilings have foliate plaster cornices.
