Description

The Grange and Conservatory is a house, now serving as a college residence, built around 1830. It is constructed of brick, which is stuccoed and colourwashed, and features a hipped slate roof with an ashlar plinth. The building has three side wall stacks and a single ridge stack, and it is designed in an L-plan with two storeys plus a lower two-storey wing on each side, comprising a total of nine bays.

The west front showcases a central moulded doorcase with a fanlight and small flanking lights, with single Venetian windows on either side. Above this, there is a central Venetian window flanked by single sash windows. The garden front features a conservatory to the left, built in the late 19th century by Messenger of Loughborough, made of wood and iron with a brick base and a canted south end. To the right of the conservatory is a large early 19th-century bow window with a plain triple sash and a conical lead roof. Further right, there is an off-centre French window with an overlight, flanked by two sashes on the left and a single sash on the right. Continuing to the right, there are two setback bays, each with a sash window, followed by a hipped wing that has a 20th-century door flanked by single sashes. Above this wing, there are five sash windows, and to their right, a sash window is flanked by single casements. The north end of the building has irregular fenestration, mostly from the 20th century.

Inside, the property features a rectangular stairwell that contains a cantilever stone dogleg stair with iron balusters and a scrolled wood handrail, along with moulded cornices throughout.
