Description

A group of four almshouses dating from 1852, built for Frances Jane Longden. They are constructed of brick with ashlar dressings, featuring a chamfered brick plinth and half-round brick eaves. The roofs are steeply pitched, covered with black plain and bullnose tiles. Four stacks, rebuilt in the mid-20th century, rise from the structure. The building is two storeys high and has four bays. The windows are leaded mullioned casements. The front elevation features two gabled porches with four-centred arched doorways and casements to each side, with single casements flanking each porch. A datestone inscribed "Almshouses erected by Frances Jane Longden 1852" is positioned centrally above the porches. Above the main roofline are four steeply pitched gabled cross-eaves dormers, each containing a mullioned casement. A flat-roofed single-storey addition projects from the right gable. A continuous single-storey lean-to addition is present at the rear.
